Text of About: 1. Introduction - to Spiritual Letters
The purpose of this Category within the Children's On-line Library, Spiritual Letters, is to share a set of letters that were written by the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with each of Us), living at the feet of His Holiness.
It consists of a series of letters, now up to number 57, that were written by the Children of His Holiness, and E-mailed to either a Fellowship Mailing List, or to a specific individual, like in Spiritual Letter 53 (www.SpiritualLetter053.homestead.com) to President George W. Bush, letters that were written from April 1989 to the Present, which at the publication of this letter, of Spiritual Letter 01 (www.SpiritualLetter001. homestead.com), which was the first letter included in this Library, is July 2004. 2. Introduction - to Spiritual Letter 01
Spiritual Letter 01, which is the first letter included in this on-line "Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Library), is a beautiful letter that was written to a brother from Nigeria, Africa, in response to his letter to the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship in which he asked us to teach him, in which he asked us to explain to him the Esoteric Aspects of Islam, and to tell him, "Who is Bawa Muhaiyaddeen?"
These letters, and especially the act of writing them with Bawa, are a beautiful introduction to the work that must be done within The True-Shaikh-Disciple Relationship, if we are ever to see God again, and how this work must occur in our personal relationship with our wisdom, and with the truth of God within our wisdom, which God sets up for us in each age, and for this age that is our relationship with Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) within us, and with God within Him. 3. Letter From Rev. George A. Johnson, from Nigeria, Africa
For this child, this work at the feet of the Shaikh, at the feet of our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) started on February 1989 when the following letter was received by the Fellowship from the brother in Nigeria, Africa.
------ Beginniing of Letter From Rev. George A. Johnson Nigeria, Africa. ------
Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship February, 1989 Philadelphia, Pa.
Dear Brother and Sister;
It is with the love and peace of Christ in me that I write you this letter. Please, I would sincerely like to know more about Islam and its esoteric part. I would like not to dwell in people's illusions and preconceived ideas and opinions anymore. I, therefore, wish to find out things for myself.
Please, I would like to be enlisted in your mailing list and also wish to be a member of this ancient Sufi path of yours. Could you please send me some books and tapes to help enlighten me on the esoteric aspect of Islam. Please send me full details on how to become a full fledged part of this ancient Sufi path of yours. I need to go home to God and I believe mere religion or Christianity can't do it for me. So, please teach me.
Who is Bawa Muhaiyaddeen?
Looking forward to hearing from you soonest. Love and Light,
Rev. George. A. Johnson Nigeria, Africa.

4. The True Shaikh-Disciple Relationship - one example
When this letter was first read by this child my whole life changed, it became the property of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him). It was a profound moment for me, and everyone else. The letter had been posted on the door of the elevator at the Fellowship in Philadelphia, and after reading it I couldn't move, all I could do was read it over and over again.
Then I got a piece of paper and wrote our the full text of the letter. Then I sat at the Fellowship and read it over and over again.
The physical presence of our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) had left the world, on December 8th 1986, a little over two year before this letter was received at the Fellowship, so we were all still trying to adjust to this transition, this new way of being with Bawa, of being with Him in our heart, in our work, and in our qualities, and no longer physically being with him In-The-Room upstairs, but rather In-The-Room of our heart.
And for this child, this letter from Nigeria culminated and solidified my transition to being with Bawa in my heart, in my work, and in my qualities. When I first read this letter I had the clear understanding that this letter had been written by Bawa within each of us to Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) within each of us, and that only Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) within each of us could write back, could respond to Bawa within each of us. Through God's grace, this is the clarity that I had at that moment.
And I also realized that through the example of This Letter, and the way in which we could respond, at the feet of our Shaikh, all of the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with each of Us) were being given an opportunity to learn how to do this kind of Heart's Work.
And over the years This Example gradually become The Understanding of Heart's Work, for this child, the understanding of work at the feet of the Shaikh, the understanding of how one disappears into the Shaikh.
For this child, This Example became the understanding of the purpose of The Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship and of The Work of the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship - which is Bawa doing Bawa's Work so we, the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with each of Us) can learn how to disappear into Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him), so the self can be destroyed and God can be revealed.

For two months, after the letter from Nigeria came to the Fellowship, this child had no other focus but joining with Bawa Muhaiyaddeen within me, to write a response to this letter from Bawa within me. And then finally at the end of the second month, after several weeks of very intense effort, the letter was done. And Bawa said to me, "That's It. Give it to the Fellowship. It's finished." And as quickly and as abruptly as it had started, it ended.
This quickness and abruptness is also, as this child has gradually learned, a hallmark of work within the heart of the Shaikh. It is something that takes quite a bit of time and experience to accept, since it can be quite difficult to join - it starts when He starts it, not when you are ready to start it, and it ends when He is done, not when you are done.
It is truly slave work, not the type of work fit for a master, or of someone who needs to be in control, or thinks that they have something of value to offer. For in truth God is in control, and only what God has is of value in any situation.
It is more like getting out of the way, stepping back, so the One of Value within you can step forward in all things, so the experience of the value of God can occur, as the Value of God is applied to any situation that God has placed before Himself, not before you, and that only God can deal with, not you, so that which God has placed within Himself, not within you, can more forward on the path of God, not you. So gradually you become nothing, you become the No-thing, which is what God is.

Letter To Each Member of The Executive Committee
At this point Bawa instructed me to write the following cover letter to each member of the Executive Committee for the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship, and to give it to each of them along with the letter to the brother from Nigeria, Africa. And this was done.
---- Beginning of Letter To Each Member of The Executive Committee ----
Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship April 16, 1989 Executive Committee Philadelphia, Pa.
My Loving Brothers and Sisters:
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim, in the name of God, the most Merciful, the most Compassionate.
In February a letter was received by the Fellowship from a Rev. George A. Johnson in Nigeria, Africa. For a period of time the letter was posted on the elevator door in the main meeting room of the Fellowship.
After reading this letter, this child was moved to respond to the requests that were made in the letter. Over the last two months the attached letter evolved and is provided at this time for your review and consideration.
A copy of the letter has been given to June with the request that she mail it to Rev. George A. Johnson in Nigeria. However, there are many issues addressed in the letter that are of concern to all members of the Fellowship and perhaps a general distribution of this letter to all members of the Fellowship would be appropriate.
Bawa has told us that God is a mystery to man and that man is a mystery to God. So it is, my loving brothers and sisters, with Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.), the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship, the "House of God" built for us by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.), the life and teachings of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.), and each of us. It is all a mystery that we will only understand as we mature in wisdom.
This child cannot claim the letter that was written nor does this child have any true understanding of the purpose and destination of this letter. However, this letter has evolved out of the relationship of this child and Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.). Bawa teaches us that there is no ownership in Islam, so this child does not own this letter. Also, Bawa tells us that there are no preferences in Islam, that we should have absolute faith and trust in God and make God's intention our search, that we should be content and peaceful with whatever God places in front of us. So, my loving brothers and sisters, this child has no preference related to the disposition of this letter to our brother in Nigeria. That is your responsibility.
This child asked Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.), in his heart, what he should do with this letter to our brother in Nigeria and the answer to that request is this letter to each of you.
Bawa has establish each of you as the executive committee for the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship, to guide and direct the affairs of the Fellowship, and to make decisions on what is best for Bawa's children on the path to God. Bawa has placed the future of the Fellowship and the care and nourishment of his children in your hands. This child respects that decision by our father and supports your authority and the decisions that you make.
May God guide you in your decisions and may you make the life of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.) your life and the wisdom of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Rad.) your wisdom. Amen.
Your loving brother within the living presence of God.
Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen

6. Closing Comments - "Don't Forget Me, Don't Forget Me, Don't Forget Me"
The letter to the brother in Nigeria, Africa, that was attached to this cover letter and given to each member of the Executive Committee, is the first letter in this Category, that is, Spiritual Letters.
This first letter is called, "Who Are We? Who Is God? And What Is The Relationship Between Us?"
Please click HERE to read this first letter (www.SpiitualLetter001.homestead.), and please click HERE to go to the Home Page (www.SpiritualLetters.homestead.com) for all of the Spiritual Letters written by the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Us) that have been included in On-line "Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Library" (www.Bawa.homestead.com).
And now with the long overdue publication of Spiritual Letter 01 in July of 2004, the "Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Library" now has 57 Spiritual Letters, with the last one being Spiritual Letter 57 (www.SpiritualLetter057.homestead.com), which is a beautiful letter from this child, Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler), in April 2004, to all of the brothers and sisters of the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship, which has been given the title, "Don't Forget Me, Don't Forget Me, Don't Forget Me", which is what Bawa told us right before He died on December 8th, 1986.
My love you (anbu), my dearest loving brothers and sisters, of the One Open Heart of our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleasd with Him), and of His Children (may God be pleased with each of Us) - Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler).
